Default Annoying Problem Part 2 - 08-31-2002, 01:52 PM

I got this problem that when my windows start it automatically starts to scan the floppy drive and makes this cracking sound which is very annoying because i have to wait like 20 seconds listening to this cracking. If anyone knows how to get rid of it please help.

Well after searching for the problem i now know that i need to uncheck the option which causes windows to search for new floppy drive every time it starts. But this was for the older versions of windows i cant seem to find this option for windows xp pro. So if anyone knows about please answer me.

Lose the Floppy Check
Each time you start the PC, the system checks to see if there are any new floppy disk drives installed. This is particularly useful for portable computers, but probably unnecessary for desktops. Removing the floppy drive check can speed up the PC's startup time, but also reduce wear on the floppy drive.

How to Disable the Floppy Drive Check

Each time you start the PC, the system checks to see if there are any new floppy disk drives installed. Here's how to disable this function.
Difficulty Level: Easy Time Required: 1 Min.

Here's How:
1. Right-click the My Computer icon and select Properties from the menu.
2. Click the Performance tab, then the File System button.
3. Under the Floppy Disk tab, uncheck the Search for New Floppy Disk Drives Each Time Your Computer Starts box.

Tips:
1. This function is particularly useful for portable computers and should probably not be disabled.
2. Disabling this feature will not keep you from booting your computer from a restore/recovery floppy disk.
