Default FPS QUESTION - 09-02-2002, 07:18 PM

Why is it I can be on the same map in basically the same spot on 2 different servers and get totally different FPS. Does the server limit how much fps each person can get? Just curious.

In a word, YES!

The server admin should set the sv_maxrate according to how many clients can log in.

What this means to you as a user is that your machine will only render the amount of frames it can get from the data stream the server sends you.

The more data you get (the higher the sv_maxrate is), the higher your FPS will be.

Realistically, 30 FPS is enough to play the game without too much jerkyness (frame dropping). If you get a higher FPS rate, then great, if not... there's not much you can do about it.

Make sure you visit [url]http://www.tweakxp.com[url] and read up on some network card tweaks.

Make sure you've got the latest video card drivers and make certain that your OpenGL settings are trimmed to allow maximum framerates.

Good Luck.
