Hi All!

I want to play MOHAA online with both my pcs in the same game using my broadband connection.

I have a NTL broadband 512k connection coming through a set top box. I am running 2 pcs in series using Windows ICS and they can both surf the net ok. I want to be able to play Medal Of Honour online with the 2 pcs, in the same game. I can play multiplayer using 1 with no problems. But I cannot play with both. I believe this is due to the fact that I only have 1 IP address to the outside world and that the host wont know which PC requires the information. I know next to nothing about networking and would be well chuffed if I could fix this. Is there nothing that can be done or will a router? do the job?

Someone has suggested that I need to configure each game to use a different port for sending & receiving game traffic. Anyone know if this is possible????

Im not using a router at the moment. I currently have a usb network adaptor on my main pc, with the broadband coming in. Then it is connected to my 2nd pc using standard network cards. Do you think a router may solve the problem?

Yes a router would help. I have my computers hooked to a router and it runs smooth. Not sure how to help you on you setup. Hopefully Rudedog or someone that has some experience can help you out. Sorry.

I think that with a router, it may work and it may not work. Some servers will accept 2 connections from the same IP and some will not. It may be easier with a router than with ICS. But maybe it's possible with ICS, I don't know. Anyway, start by trying a couple of differents servers.If you buy a router, it may be easier, but may not work on all servers.

If you want to buy a router, be sure that your modem has a RJ-45 plug and not only a USB plug. Most routers can only be connected to a modem via RJ-45. Maybe that there are some new routers that will accept a USB only modem, I don't know.

If your modem can use a RJ-45 plug, another thing taht can be done is to plug the modem in a simple cheap hub and connecting the 2 PC to the hub too. Unlike a router, each PC will have it's own IP adress. But before trying that, call your ISP to know if there is a aditionnal price for an additionnal IP. Where I live, there is only one ISP that accept that you use 2 IP's without paying more. Most other will bill you 20 CAN$/month more for each aditionnal IP.

This is why there are routers, they can share a connection with a single IP, they include a firewall, some include a print server, it works better than ICS, and you don't have to keep the host powered for the client to use internet. Most ISP's force you to pay for an aditionnal IP since there is a limited number of IP adresses in the world, and they have to buy anough for their customers, so they limit each customer to 1 IP.

You would need a router, Microsofts ICS ( Internet computer sharing ) can not forward the correct ports like a router.

When sharing a connection a router is always the best bet. You can configure it as a firewall as well.

what you need is a
hardware router, I would suggest a linksys but someone has mentioned that there processor is not the greatest. One or two computers should be fine. just don't try and host a 16 player game from behind it.

the latest firmware for your router.

connect one computer at a time to the game server of your choice. This way you can establish what outgoing port the router will use for each computer.

This is not fool proof. I would however suggest you ask this question on the router's message board to see what others have experienced with MOH.

It works fine for me, we didn't have to open ports or anything like that for our router.

All I did when I hooked my router up, is just plug everything up and everything has been fine since.

I used to be on a LAN with my m8...both pc`s had XP pro...automaticly saw the other pc...the ip is 192.168.0.1 on the client pc...never had any trouble with it...didnt need any routers or anything...had a decent cable connection,...hell we even played clanwars together without lag... cool:

Yes same here m8 i have cable 1mg did have 512 still no problems.

i us cable in main pc on a networkcard, 2 other network cards to feed 2 kids bedrooms each with there own network card in, all pc's were xp OS and it was plug and play, i often go in game with the kids and all works fine.

Just to let you all know, I have a broadband (cable) setup without a Router. Just ask your ISP for a seperate IP address. I got another one for an extra two bucks a month, and both connections run off the same modem.

Fixed it!

No routers required or anything like that......just had to re-install GameSpy on the 2nd pc!
