Default Gay Marriage Ban: Protection or Distraction - 06-05-2006, 11:27 PM

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,198176,00.html

I am leaning towards this whole thing being a political move to get some things out of the spotlight. This guy probably says it best for my opinion. I know that the administration has had its eyes on this issue for a while and I guess they figure they need to do something about it before the power can have the chance to tilt left.

[quote:7c994]"I honestly cannot say whether the GOP's efforts to ban gay marriage is an act of protection or distraction, but I can tell you I am more concerned about finding a practical solution to the immigration issue, the war in Iraq, the nuclear issue with Iran, and the continued corruption scandals that too many people are content with sweeping under the rug." — Mario[/quote:7c994]

Well we know distractions and other methods of shifting the spotlight aren't out of the question for the administration...

I'm not sure you can call this a distraction. This has been around for basically Bush's entire time in office. I think it's just an issue that he hasn't brought to a solution he wants. And also, with all the other stuff in the news, I'm not sure how this is really distracting anyone, it's just another issue, it's not like they're not still talking about Iran, Iraq, etc...

sex does belong in the Constitution. Most states voted on this during the last election. It didnt pass at the state level so why screw with it? Old news rehashed. Keep religion out of politics PERIOD

It's a pointless issue, marriage isn't defined by just one group of people and that does include the Federal Government. Let it go and lets move on to more important issues with far more reaching consequences.

It would be amazing if there was a direct voting power from the american registered voter. I'd be interesting to see the results on a huge scale "election" type voting on this issue. If the right amount of people showed up to "the polling stations" there'd probably be enough support for the ammendment.

it shouldnt matter what the people vote on, the ammendment is still predjudicial and discrimination.

No, it's a stupid waste of time and effort. People need to stop worryin about 'boys kissing' and more attention to things that acually effect them and the nation in a more dire way.

This may surprise some of you, but I don't care if gay people get married. I think homosexuality is bad and I don't support it, but I don't think it should be outlawed, just like I don't think infidelity should be outlawed.
