Default Windows 2000 Server Dedicated Server PLEASE HELP!! - 09-09-2002, 10:53 AM

I have setup a dedicated server and the only way to connect to it is through the IP. It is not listed in Gamespy or in Browse Internet Server. I tried modifing the server.cfg file several different ways, and tried dedicated server launchers just in case I was doing it wrong. All to no avail. Ive disabled my firewall and called my ISP to see if they automatically block ports. They don't because I pay a whole bunch for the "business class" connection lol.

Anyway, I'm running windows 2000 server and I wondered if there was an inherent issue. Are the ports autoblocked by win 2k some how?? I tried adding the ports to the services file, but that didn't work. Any suggestions?? Please let me know.

Are you using a router?

The only reason that your game won't be showing in GameSpy is if the UDP12300 port is being blocked for some reason. As long as you have IP filtering turned off in Win2k the server should allow connetion to it from teh GS master servers.

If you are using a firewall, be sure to forward UDP 12203 (game traffic port) and UDP 12300 (gamespy port) to your server IP.

Like Blasney was saying, the reason I asked if you have a router is because you have to open certian ports on it in order for it to accept a GS connection. You can look these ports up in DogMeat's Port Guide. A link for his guide and how to use it is in the AA.COM FAQ at the top of this forum.

I'm not using a router and I've disabled the firewall until I get this running. I have just disabled filtering as directed but I won't be able to tell if it worked until I get home!
