I heard about that on the radio this morning, but that was the first time I saw it. Much more vicious than I imagined.
He should be gone for the rest of the season and the playoffs...plus a hefty fine.

It was a dirty hit. MSG guys don't know wtf their talking about. Should have been a boarding penalty, and suspension for the guy who hit Simon. This isn't to excuse what Simon did. He should be suspended as well, but if you take out the dirty hits from the game by actually calling penalty and suspending people for taking liberties with players, players would be more afraid to hit dirty.

Refs are bad all around.
They were just making a point on the radio, if you place your stick on a guys hand and hardly touch him it's hooking or holding. If you hit a guy from behind, there is no penalty a lot of the time. I can think of a lot of hits this year that were from behind that weren't called. And the league doesn't have the balls to suspend players who do it, whether by accident or on purpose.

Im definally with ya on that one...sundin was hit from behind a couple games ago agressivly...right beside the ref...and he did shit all. Been noticing it a lot in general...
oh ya...also...another thing.,..if you grab the puck with you hand in the crease...hell it wa sin the air..and throw it away...it's a penatly shot...i guess it's not a penatly shot when you're doing it against the leafs
seriouslly...they do not want us in the playoffs...im glad edmonton aint makin it thouh thats lol. ONE TIME FLUKERS.

wrong...
simon was in the motion of turning perpendicular to hollweig just before the hit was made when simon suddenly turned towards the boards to avoid the hit. there was nothing hollweig could do... if simon hadnt made that sudden change of face, it would have been shoulder to shoulder and right next the the boards... hence no penalty was called. sure, one *could* have been called based on the result, but a good ref would see the circumstances, i got knocked and got a concusion out a few years ago doing the same thing, no call was made, rightfully so even though the hit on me looked vicious.
i figured you hockey watching guys would know more about the game than that the_finger:

From the NHL rulebook:
[quote:060fd]A minor or major penalty, at the discretion of the Referee, based upon the degree of violence of the impact with the boards, shall be imposed on any player who checks an opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to be thrown violently in the boards.[/quote:060fd]
It doesn't matter if Simon was turning or not, or if he had time to let up or not. At the point of the hit, Simon's back was to him, and his face hit the glass. Boarding.
