Default Mod tutorials? - 09-27-2002, 07:35 AM

i'd like to learn to make my own realism mod, but i'm a complete novice and even some of the mod tutorials i've read are bloody confusing. can anyone help get me started in a way that i can understand? i just need a mod that incorporates all the good qualities of CKR realism without the stg being THE weapon of the game...

Alright first make a folder on your desktop call Realism. Download CKR and extract all of the files in the .pk3 into the 'Realism' folder. Now you'll need a text editor. Your computer probaly came with one installed. Notepad, Wordpad, SimpleText, anything like that will work. Go through the folders until you find the weapon you want to change. Once you get there, read through how it is set and you'll quickly see how it works and what to change. If you need more help IM me.

ok, i've made the mod and it's bloody good. i know this is gonna sound stupid, but it's still in compressed zipped file association and i want to change it back to the pk3 association. i try to change it in the folder options, but in the dropdown list there's no pk3 file association. what now? oOo:

i've tested this mod on our server and it works great, even players on our server say it's darn good, so i want to zip it up and send it to aa.com ... any ideas?

Its very easy hehe. Just copy an already existing pk3. Delete everything inside. Rename it to your mod and put your files inside.

i don't think you understand, i changed the association of the file, so there are no files labeled PK3...how do i change them back from compressed zipped folder to pk3?

i can do what you've said, but those files have another association...

zip up all your mod stuff the same way it was zipped up for CKR.
rename it from mymod.zip to mymod.pk3
a PK3 is just a zip file renamed.

i can't zip it up because it's in compressed file format...at least, that's what winzip is telling me.

well i cant figure out what youre saying..... so try this...

it came as a zip.... you extract the zip and get yourself a pk3.... you change the file extension from pk3 to zip...... you extract the contents to a dir and fark about with the tiks.... you save the tiks..... you go back to the parent dir and add to zip...... you rename the zip to pk3.

thats what i would have done to not get any errors.
