Need a little help with MOHAA / Multiplayer -
09-30-2002, 06:01 AM
Hey everybody,
While I hate to be a noob, sometimes we all can't help it at some point or another. I built my new system a good 2 weeks ago, and I have been playing MOHAA full quality and its kicking a lot of ass. I used to have to tweak everything so much just to play it for 15 minutes, and then restart the game / computer to reset the memory and make it fast for another 15 - 20 minutes.
I also realized that now with a better computer I am able to play the game online. While it is still a 56k, I can at least load the game no sweat. My first question was about removing the intro scene in the beginning, and my second question was why doesn't the console work, but both of those were answered in the FAQ post.
A question I do have is that is there any other way to play this game w/o the use of Gamespy? I really despise gamespy. It takes forever and a day just to load the server list, and if I'm unhappy with a server, I have to do it all over again. I find it to be really slow as well. I am also convinced that while I am in the game, since Gamespy doesn't close itself, it's doing something that is taking precious latency from me in the server, but I'm unable to figure anything out. Can anybody help me in finding a way to run it better w/ or w/o Gamespy?
Thank you very much!

I have used the ingame browser but it seems to take forever to load all the servers. I agree GameSpy is not great but, it seems to be faster than the browser. I usually go directly to servers with IPs that I know, although, I am not sure how to find more of those server IPs. fire2:

Try All Seeing Eye... better, stronger, faster server browser.

Open up a whole new world of servers to play on. Give it a shot.

The all seeing eye eh? I thought that was something like HLSW, where you actually have to add the server and it maintains your lists for better access, rather than be able to scan for servers. I will downlaod that tonight.
In game browser?! Why have I not seen this, its either Open Gamespy through Multiplayer {Which also states it will close the game} or connect to IP 0.0.0.0
Bah, lol

This thing has all the bells and whistles... you can maintain a list of your favs it you want.
It's got buddy lists, the whole shebang.

Some functionality of ASE crapped out on me over the weekend. I didn't know it was gonna do that! CRAP!
Ah well...

The question is, does the All Seeing Eye (ASE I'm assuming) provide server lists like Gamespy? Like it pings a master server, and then it comes up with like 3000+ servers??? Fast?! I am excited!
Does anybody have a fix for the ping issue in the game? I mean it takes me to hit the button, then a good 2.5 seconds from the time I hit the button to shoot, to the time it takes to actually shoot the gun. I also hate how if you have lag, you move and then you move back, its been a long time since I've had games that lag in that sort of way. Not much of a choice though, as I am going to be on 56k Dialup for quite a long time.

I'm not a sales associate for UDP Soft or anything, but it is faster than gameSpy. ASE includes much sweetness.
GameSpy sweetness factor: 4
ASE sweetness factor: 12
Regarding your ping issues.. lead your shots. LOL
Your ping has little to do with the lag, as a 56K'er, it's data transfer (lack of bandwidth) that's killin' you. You're trying to keep up with the cable and DSL players who enjoy oodles more bandwidth than you. Realise that your being on those servers slows down the game for them and usually results in you getting kicked.
You might want to use ASE to find Dialup servers... my bro is in the same boat as you.... he has a helluva time finding servers he can play on. Stay on the smaller servers, fewer players means less data to transfer, therefore smoother gameplay for a 56K'er. 6-8 players will be less exciting, but ultimately more playable.
Good Luck.

Shiftage, you need to update to the latest patch (ver. 1.11). This will include the in-game browser and will also allow you to play on most servers (there aren't many that aren't updated and although I don't know first-hand, understand that cheating is much more accessible).
ASE is a damn good game browser. Passwords for servers and server management is much easier. No waiting 10 minutes for the servers to stop scrolling by - just pick a couple that you like to play on and make them your fav's.

Get Cable or DSL. That'll fix your problems.. if you can't get it where you live, MOVE!!!
Seriously guy, your lag is due to a severe lack of bandwidth.

QTracker -

I personally prefer Qttracker. It will take a few minutes to load all the games, but once they are all loaded all you have to do is create a favorites folder, move all the servers you want to it, and never have to refresh the list again, you can also manually add servers to your favorites list using the ip. It also has an unlimited bussy tracker, add as many buddies as you like, when they are on double click on their name and wala, it shows you where they are playing. Also, if you double click on a server, it will open up a new window, show you frags ping and deaths for each player (except for TDM). Get it here http://www.qtracker.com/
