Default Running Linux Server - 10-01-2002, 09:21 PM

Hi folks, nice to meet you. I am no newbie to Linux and had MOHAA running on a home based RH 7.3 system with no problems. I lease several dedicated servers for webhosting and recently found myself with some extras and have been feverishly installing games on them, lol. I've tried to install MOHAA on one of these machines after uploading the 1.3 gb of data needed to run it and although it appears to start fine in the console and I exec a custom server.cfg file after starting it the damn thing won't show up on gamespy. Any ideas? Yes I enabled seta sv_gamespy "1" and there is no firewall running on this box.

It doesn't show up in the in-game list either. Any linux server admins here? I was told this was the place to go with a question like this...

Just curious.....It wont show up on gamespy right? So you can play it by connecting to the IP right? I just wanted to confirm you're not using a port under 1024. Only ROOT can can launch processes under port 1024 or under.
(u probably already knew this... but u never know) If this is not a factor then your guess is as good as mine...lol

Wish I could help ya man.

One other thought.... R U launching your server config prior to or AFTER the console line "loading blah blah (1242 on my system) localization entries. It wont work for me unless I do it after (from console) UNLESS I add it to the command line ie: command +exec yada yada

Couple things u may already now but I'll mention them anyway:

Is the server binding to the correct ip? I usually use +net_ip ip.ip.ip.ip in the start up line

Do you have the port that gamespy uses open? Port 12300 if I remember correctly. And of course port 12203 for MOHAA itself.

There is a guide in the MOH:AA FAQ at the top of this forum made by DogMeat that tells you exactly what ports to leave open for MOHAA to work correctly, along with hosting it on Gamespy.

Hey, I appreciate the tips. I'm using the standard and default ports for mohaa and gamespy and ipchains/iptables are turned off so there shouldn't be any restrictions on any ports. This is what I'm typing to launch my server config:

screen -A -m -d -S mohaa ./mohaa_lnxded +exec server.cfg

This way it stays running in the background if I log off of putty.

I have read both MOH:AA FAQ's here on running a dedicated server and had one runing on my box at home here no problem, which is why this is freaking me out. This new box is much better hardware and bandwidth wise.

Thanks!

Have you tried this?

- sv_debuggamespy ... defaults to 0 ... set to 1 see information
going to and coming from gamespy...If you aren't showing up in the server
browser, enable this and see if anything is happening.

This is not valid or print anything to the screen in the win version of MOH
