I've had cable for about 5 years. When I first got it it was a little unstable, peobably cause it was in the beginner stages. Now it runs as smooth as butter. I hardly haev any problems and always have fast downloads. I'm very pleased at the moment with it. 40CAD/month, and its great.

It really depends on where you live. I use to have cable, and I was pinging around 120 all the time... Now on DSL i ping around 110 (not much of a difference) but the DSL service I have is capped, so surfing the net, and downloading stuff has been a real challenge with DSL for me. Just make sure you read all the find print before swtching, I had no clue my DSL line was going to be capped, until i made the switch. Now I wish I still had cable.

ACK!!!!!!
This question has been an ongoing issue for me.
My DSL gave me crappy pings compared to my buddy across town on cable. I could not get any better than a 80 ping anywhere, even to our server hosted on the same network in town. So I switch to cable and my ping is crap there too. My buddy can get pings in the 30s to some servers and I cannot break the 70-80 threshold on my best servers and usually 150-200 on other good servers and usually double my buddies ping to identical servers. I thought, maybe its the router, so I remove it from the equation and its still no joy.
It sucks more during high traffic times, but I can still download at blazing speeds (3X my DSL) even when my pings top 200.
Is my only solution to shell out the big bucks for the 1.5g adsl? I am not particularly wanting to go there.
Any ideas?

It definately depends on where you live. I have 1.5 mbps ADSL and it is great. I generally have 20-80 pings on all west coast servers. It's very consistent and i have a static IP. DirecTV is my provider. Hookup was only about 10 days, and the one time i called customer service the hold time was about 20 SECONDS! My buddy has cable nearby and my ping is generally 20 - 30 points lower than his on the same server.

If his sig is his personality, I'm becoming a born-again christian.
Anyways, I have the shittiest cable connection in all of Staten Island. Not even joking, I went to dslreports.com, and mine is the lowest out of about 25 other people. Im under by like 300ms, which is bad. DSL is worse on the Island. So yes, it depends on where you live.
