Default Pegasus Bridge - 10-13-2002, 08:45 PM

Hi,

Seeing how my idea on The "Day of Days" Map backfired, I was I search of a new idea for a map. I thought and thought and thought about ideas but, nothing poped up... then I decided I'd Try to make the most realistic replica of Pegasus Bridge ever for MoH:AA. For those who arent Familiar to Pegasus Bridge Heres some history for you:

--- Shortly after midnight on 6th June 1944 6 gliders approached the heavily guarded bridges - code named Pegasus and Horsa bridge – over the Orne and the Caen Cannel in northern France. The gliders were manned by men of the 2nd Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry supported by some Royal Engineers. They were part of the air landing brigade of the British 6th Airborne Division. It was their task to take and defend both bridges.

The bridges were a vital link between Caen and the sea, enabling the Germans to move reinforcements – especially tank units – from the east to the west, to attack the flanks of the British-Canadian invasion sector. On the other hand the bridges were vital for the Allies to break out of an established bridgehead after D-Day. So the bridges, which were expected to be mined, had to stay intact.

At D-Day + 00:16 hrs the men in the gliders landed very near the bridges, hurried out of their gliders and attacked the bridge garrison. This is where History Begins...

Great minds..........
It was the next map I intend to do after Pointe Du Hoc.
I already have some research and images, so yeah I am interested but I am fairly busy mapping other things so if you have no urgency in doing it I will help but I can't concentrate solely on this yet. I must finish Pointe a big project.
If I had my choice again I would have done Pegasus first an easier concept and to finish.

Yeah, I need a new map now that my map, Allied Barracks, is dying b/c the scripting won't work (IT LOOKS SO GOOD TOO!). I'm kinda strapped for time, but I'm usually a quick worker.

One prob, I suck at scripting. I've been mapping since April, and I still can't script. That accounts for the fact that only one of my maps has been released. Maybe working on a map w/ someone smarter will help. Email me if you need me.

Default pegasus bridge and pointe du hock - 10-14-2002, 04:51 PM

i don't know if any of you guys are interested, but i think i have digital photo's of both of these places on my travels around france from last year or the year before.the thing is pegasus bridge does not stand over the river any more it is in a museum next to the old site, but it should give you an idea of the lay out as with bloody omaha, there is not alot left intact but again give you some ideas. bigzooka:

Great!

Oddball, Im really not in a total hurry to release this becasue im trying to make it historically correct. So I understand youll be busy with ohter things. But I would like it if you tryed to help me with this. I would like it if somebodys good at making buildings like the cafe. Im not totally shure, but I think somebody said somewhere that there where trenches on bolth sides of the river and concrete encased AA guns on the german side of the bridge. To my understanding I belive there was 3 Gliders that landed to capture pegasus and head twards the cafe. I would really like it if there was somebody that who is good at modling, that would try to make wrecked gliders for this map. Bonkas i would really appreciate it if you posted some of the pictures of the surounding area of pegasus like the cafe, pond, road, etc on this thread. Oddball if you want I can send you the map file. Ive been only working on it for 2 days now and the bridge is 50% done

---------- If anybody has pictures of Pegasus bridge and the surounding area PLEASE post them here! --------

- I would espically like it if somebody posted an areal shot of the area

- Does anybody know where I can host my screenshots for FREE to be able to post them on this forum?

Like I said im into realism rather than "rambo" style fragfests

Thank you,
