I'm in the process of making a new realism mod and I was wondering what you would add / change about the CPR mod. Any suggestions? I've already done the following:
1. Made the starting ammo for each weapon accurate for the time period.
2. Made weapons that have similar ballistics do similar damage. In the CPR mod, the .45 1911 is significantly more powerful than the .45 Thompson (by 33%), same for the '06 rifles, etc. The real difference between these arms is their performance at distance, ammo capacity, rate of fire, etc. If anything, the Thompson has more punch with a slightly higher velocity from the longer barrel.
3. Changed the reload times to accurately reflect reloads under combat conditions. The shotgun and 03A4 will take a significant hit.
4. Make damage more realistic. If you get shot once, maybe twice, with a high powered cartridge, you go down. If you get shot twice with a pistol cartridge, you go down.
5. Made the firing rates more accurate. The current rates are set based on game balance.
6. Made accuracy more realistic. I don't think the CPR mod changed any of the accuracy variables.
7. Made 9mm not do as much damage as the .45. Both are still deadly. Made similar adjustments to the rifle rounds.
I'm still undecided on the following:
1. The 98k sniper looks like it has a scope that is offset so the rifle can use stripper clips. This was a very rare rifle in the war. Should I set the reload time to what it would take for a stripper clip (far less time than one round at a time, like the 03A4)? From a "realism" standpoint, most snipers did not have an offset scope. But that is what is in the game...then again, the scope and scope rings are pure fantasy. Lemme know which you think it should have....
2. Rockets. I've currently got it set up so anyone who outfits with a rocket gets the rifle instead. Should we keep rockets?
In the end, realism is a dream with this game since you can't go prone and differences in bullet penetration are not modeled (high powered cartridges would go right through the house walls, demolish the rock walls, etc.). That's one of the reasons guys loved the BAR - it was a sweat job to carry, but it could punch through just about anything with high volume fire.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
