Nope, not true. Its all about air flow and if you have a big table fan blowing on your open pc, you have plenty of airflow. My pc runs about 8 C cooler with the cse open. The real problem is dust and other garbage. I run my processor slower (but still overclocked) so I can keep it closed and quiet.

Joe - I saw those ac coolers for around $650. Watercooling, done properly, runs about $300, but that is cpu, gpu and ram all hooked up to the cooling system.
