Of course they're required, but the DoD uses your ASVAB score to determine what you're eligible for. In other words, you can fail miserably and still get in, hence the point waivers mentioned. Intelligence huh? You must've taken that language test, the 3 hour test, listening to that guy babble in that made-up language. I passed it, barely.
