Yep. An economy almost the size of the US, a more stable currency (for now ) and huge political clout, probably more so than the US. But that's really cutting things short.

There's actually a great article on how it's use of civilian power, as oppossed to military, fuels its superpower status, but I can't find it online. For those interested its called "Europe, the quiet superpower, is the equal of the US" by Harvard professor Andrew Moravcsik. It was published in Newsweek a few months ago.
