Actually war is not usually a good subjet for the news becuase of violence and turmoil. It is a good subject becuase it is not a short subject, it will probably be there for a quite a while, and it cost a lot of YOUR money so there for people will pay more attention to it and will watch the news in order to see where their money is going.
