to clarify, the lifeguard kid was the kid who was giving someone mouth to mouth in the pilot, and Jack told him "that's wrong; you should consider giving [that lifeguard] license back] and then the kid went off to find a pen. The one legged dude was the guy who was trapped beneath the engine, Jack pulls him out from beneath a large chunk of debris, and is revealed to have lost a leg in the crash.
