Spearhead needs a FORGIVE function -
11-18-2002, 02:49 AM
I love that Spearhead has an auto-TK kicking system in place. This will really help keep some peace when playing on servers and no admin is present. I'm surprised that, though they included this awesome new feature, they forgot the obvious by including Forgive function. This is how it should work...
A guy TK's you in the game. As soon as that occurs a brief message appears in the upper right corner that says something like "You have been TK'ed, press F7 if you wish to forgive your teammate" followed by a 10 second countdown. If during that 10 seconds you press that key, (doesn't have to be F7, but it's currently not bound to anything), your teammate is forgiven and that one TK does not count towards him getting kicked. Otherwise after 10 seconds, it does count towards his TK count.
I think this is needed, because there are times when TK's are purely accidental or sometimes are caused by a guy foolishing rushing in front of his teammates engaged weapon. In those cases, we should have the option of forgiving a teammate who we know had meant no harm.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein allows forgiving of TK's, and though their gameplay sucks, RtCW sure has MoH beat for game interface features.
Without the ability to forgive, this auto-TK kicking feature may become more of a nuisance than a godsend.

Why play teams? More fun in a Free For All Game!!! It's a bit more challenging.

free-for-all more challenging? no.. that's a spray and pray frag fest..
the real challenge lies in the Tug-O-War and Objective maps where you actually have to think more than camp. And when FF is on it's twice the challenge..
free-for-all more challenging.. no offense.. but that some funny shit.
As far as the forgive function. Yes. that would be cool. But it wont bother me the way it is. Because for one. If your nade kills someone when you die. It's not an offence. (i mean you can't be responsible for a cooked nade you were holding after being shot in the head anywho), and if you do panic and take out a bunch of your team.it only counts as one offense. So I'm not to worried about that because it wouldn't happen more than once on a server. And I'm not one of thoughs types that shoots everything that's moving. So dun care. I've only been warned once so far.
And thoughs warnings sure will come in handy when the grenade launcher comes back in the patch.. But of course then all the noobs will vote FF off on a constant basis. Just like they vote realism on right now all the time.

lol look for the french school girl server, you cant vote ff off there and you cant vote realism off.
Anyways i think its a good idea, i was on the FSG server for 6 hours and played with a member of the EUMC named Rushwood. This guy and I were raping everyone just getting objectives and killing. There were a few times though when we would cover each other and accidentally kill each other if some fag who always runs side to side and jumps up and down came along.
The funny part. I die less and get more kills by standing still in a fire fight then these morons running around and jumping everywhere.

I think the forgive idea is brilliant. It allows Teamkill-kicking to be set at 2, and warnings 1, instead of 4or5. Is there anyway of modding this into the game? Or any chance we could convince EA to do so?

currently, on the our demo server, you CAN turn FF off and turn Realsim ON, but the admins will just turn them back. In our full server coming soon, they wil not be options. Thank you for enjoying our server, we try and keep the crap out. I booted two losers with cussword names (it just doesnt have to be there)
our demo serveR: 65.123.22.22:12203
P.S. I also boot those people who shoot you at spawn but dont kill you.

forgive opt -

I like the "forgive" option, they have something like that in Wolfenstein where when you get teamkilled you can file a complaint, if you don't the incident is "forgiven." After so many filed complaints the offender gets booted. The problem with that approach, of course, is if you frag a bunch of teammates by accident, and they all file complaints, you can get booted after one incident.
The upshot is, where do you draw the line? I like the TK-warn-boot in SH, but you're right -- you must set the thresholds carefully, to avoid booting the accidental TK, something that can easily happen during long games.
Of course, if someone is booted repeatedly for TKing, perhaps implementing a auto-ban would help. Or, perhaps, a lengthning respawn time for the TKer, that grows longer every time they do it.

I like the forgive option but I think it should be set up like Wolfenstein. Your TK should be automatically forgiven after a certain time if the person you TK'd doesn't vote against you. I played on a SH server over the weekend and noticed that the majority of the players don't vote. It would suck to be booted because people weren't paying attention or didn't care. The TK'd person would have to make an effort and vote against you this way.

Yeah,
Either way... But you will always have TK'ers.. And you will always have thoughs morons that run into your line of fire and then cry TK'er.

Hey - theres nothing wrong with Team Wounding. At first I though shotgunning someone from behind was joyful, but knocking someone with the butt of my gun, and then putting a bullet in them to take them down to 10 health - ABSOLUTELY CLASSIC!!!. Impliment it all you want, but I'll still teamwound, and I'll get away with it too!!! MWAHAHAHA!!!!
And I TOO played on a realism, FF-on, no voting server.
It was glorious.

Can a moderator give me this jokers IP-adres so I can ban this joker of the 4th servers. Teamwounding is really pathetic, and maybe even freudian.

I have been able to develop a TK handling system for Linux TDM servers running MOH:AA that has an option that allows victims to forgive their TK'ers. The victim types !forgive into any chat window and the player that last TK'ed them is forgiven for the kill. The server administration tool has three modes of operation for disciplining TK'ers. You can set it to simply kick or ban, or you can start with kicking as the penalty and have it change to ban after a certain amount of kicks. It also has an "amnesty" provision where you can tell it to forgive a certain number of kicks after a player has successfully gone a certain number of maps without being kicked for violationg TK rules.
I haven't been able to make it work for Spearhead yet because the Linux version hasn't been released. When it is, I plan to make the necessary changes to support it. If you want to get some more information about what the tool can do, check out this link:

TeamWounding is another problem that will hopefully be helped by the release of the MOH SDK at the end of this year. Once the game server internal structure is able to be modified, TW information can be detected and dealy with accordingly.

WRONG, WRONG, WRONG -- people who run or play on servers with FF-on, voting turned off just so they can TK players are just pathetic.
Which bring to mind, the voting in SH -- its nearly impossible to get a vote to pass (for just about anything), has anyone got a clue as to how the logic works in the voting system?
Shockwave:
Look forward to seeing a Linux port come out, as I have got a decent connection and available CPU power just begging for a port, but so far the linux-based automated admin tools for MOH have been pretty lacking, and I'm not going to attempt to run a server unless some supervision/monitoring is possible. I think that, in combination with server-side force-models and illegal skin detection could make for pretty fair games.

there are several tools to fight that Fontaine: Illegal skin detection use a programme called delator. anti force models, Scorpio wrote a script for that.
The voting system works REALLY easy. You call a vote and ppl vote, everyone gets 1 vote, and it counts equally. All those who do not vote remain undecisive, and the rest either votes yes or no. If the majority votes for yes, then the vote is passed, otherwise not.
