Well I have got a rather shity machine ie:slow processor,not great ram,not good vid card (all of which i hope to rectify with the help of mr & mrs christmas)
I would just love to see everyone playing on the same systems with the same ping and same hardware and see how we all get on.
I still do ok even with my outdated hardware but it does make me laugh (cringe)when i see all this "owned" bullshit when a true test of skill/awareness of the game cannot be judged unless were all on the same playing field.
Dunno if any1 can relate to this but i thought id give it a mention.

Yeah I know what you mean. I have a crappy computer but I still do well. I'm sure mine isn't as bad as yours; in fact the only bad thing is my video card (the most important thing).

back when i had 56K i still wrecked shop (top 3 no matter what) but now days im number one in most servers unless i join late

Whats the spec of your dinosaur computer? What ISP service do you have? I have ATT Cable with a average speed of 1681.5kbps. If your connection is good, just upgrade your comp. If your connection is slow, I have a tweak program I got that speeds up your connection. Works! I was running only 720 kbps. Anyone need it just PM me. I will try to send you the program.

I think the connection makes more difference than the PC.

I previously had a p3 500 running on a 100 MHz FSB with a Ge Force 3 200 Ti. And I got about 15-30 FPS. Now I have the same vcard, but with an AMD 1700+ on a 333 MHz FSB. Same amount of RAM as before: 256 MB. Now I get 70-99 FPS.

My *skills* (nor kills) didnt go way up.

Yea agreed connection is very important and with this i have no probs,i get pings of under 30 at times.
When i say shity old comp it aint to bad (not that bloody good either)

So yea i need to upgrade a few things.
crossroads is impossible to play with the fps,but all in all i still make top 2 on other maps.
My general point was, it would be interesting if we all had the same setup and connection too.
Now that would be a true test of what a player is capable of.

I have a 16 meg video card as well, boy it really sucks. I can get about 30-35 fps on crossroads, however. Not too bad, but not very good, either.

Wierd thing is i used to be fine on crossroads and couldnt play snowy......now its the other way round,i have no probs on snowy...cant play crossroads work that 1 out cos i cant..
