i have adobe photoshop the latest version any tips on doing back grounds? i want to be able to blend in how do i go about that?

And about the airbrush, i tried selecting that to have a go at blending but when i used it, it sprayed out paint. how do i stop this?

I guess you misunderstood me. You don't want to use the airbrush itself. Go into the eraser tool, and the toolbar at the top of the screen will have a drop down menu that has options like pencil, airbrush, and paintbrush. That changes how the eraser works. You get a light erase effect when you use it in airbrush mode.

I checked it out and tried to give it a go, but didn't work the way i wanted it, i want a tool that is good for blending.

blending can be done a million ways. depends on what type of blending you want to have done.

as for your sigs. DO NOT OVERUSE LAYER STYLES! they are unimaginative to say the least. layer styles (bevel & emboss, outer glow, etc) are ok because you are just starting out. my advice to you is to do some hard research into tutorials and such. here are a few sites to help you out.

that's about all i can think of right now.

here is a good tutorial on cutting out complex objects (such as hair) from their background and readying them for transplant to a new background.

if you are just cutting out a simple object like that soldier, don't use the lasso at all. use the pen tool. it's frustrating when you first start using it but once you get it it's a great skill to have.

the best thing about tutorials is that you learn how to do new things with old tools. it also shows options you would otherwise disregard.

try taking a photo background (any photo) then on a new layer applying your render/clouds (also try difference clouds for more contrast). use a large, soft(pressure-wise) brush for your erasor and delete some of the clouds. mess with the opacity or hue (anything like that) till it looks good. it'll give you a nice cloudy effect over a photo backdrop.

that same effect i'm talking about was used to make this sun flare (a LOT more steps went into this but you get the idea).
