In this case, they shouldn't have shot the dog. But sometimes they can't help it, they have to kill a dog to protect themselves. I was watching a show (cops, acctully) and the NYPD's Emergency Services Unit (SWAT) was assigned to carry out a high risk arrest/search warrent on an apartment. As they were walking down the hall towards the apartment, the people inside heard them coming, released a pit bull, and ordered it to kill the officers. The ESU officers tried to stop the dog without hurting it, but they couldn't. One officer opened fire on the dog just in time to stop it from attacking him. The dog was killed, and the owners were arrested. They did try everything they could, including running away from the dog, but sometimes there isn't any other option.

But, in the case of what happened according to the article (and remember that the media doesn't nessicerly publish the WHOLE truth) there was no need at all to kill the dog.

i assume that the dog approached the cop. but if we never saw the tape then we dont know what really happened. and there must be a reason the cop shot the dog, he wouldnt just shoot it for no reason.

the idiots were repeatedly told by the family to close the car doors or the dogs would get loose. The cops did nothing UNTIL the dog got loose and then shot.

animals die everyday, it's not a big deal. only this time they were shot by cops and the media just has to make such a big deal about it.

Germ, I have a dog, and have had that dog for 6 years. I am close to that dog, he is like a brother. Losing a dog thats in the family is like losing a family member close to you - and the way he was killed makes it even worse.

If i thought the dog was going to attack me-i would have killed it too-no remourse-i have 2 dogs-and am close. some people say certain things happended when they didnt actually. (for ex-my dad is a sheriif. he had arrested someone and put them in the back of the car. jokingly he said, i almost shot you in the foot. because the dude ran-well he sued my dad because he said my dad said "i should have shot you." it was later thrown out of court.

the thing that pisses me off most is they ae helpless because the badguys are cops, if it was a regular punk then the dog's owner could turn him into a .45 caliber cheese (swiss of course), but here he can't do anything.
