Im an American of (Protestent) Irish disent. In the past I fully supported the I.R.A. but I can see how some would call them terrorists. Thier tactics have changed over the years. They wont will a popularity contest nowadays. Too many innocnets are being killed, wether its an accident or on purpose I dont know. One thing for sure the Brits really F-ed up that country. Many feel this is a war over religion, but I dont think that is the case, its over land.

tell me Gerard and all you other micks and supporters of terrorism, when you see incidents on the news where a large bomb has been set off in a crowded English shopping district by IRA scumbags, and then you see bloody, crying civilians covered in dirt running from the ruins and you hear the death toll, do you sit back, celebrate, and go
"hooray some more innocent limey bastards dead!" ?

I know I wasn't smiling when I saw the drama adaptation of Bloody Sunday, in fact, I felt pretty sick, and was ashamed at an otherwise fantastic British regiment.

This thread is completely inappropriate, and just because "there's more Americans and Canadians than English" doesn't mean that the few English here are not going to take offence.

It's also very ironic that a lot of yanks are saying that the British have fucked up a lot of countries, well you've certainly not got a pretty good record yourself in your small 200 year history, and what did you fuck up those countries for? The Domino Theory? Being the policeman of the world?

Don't bother saying all the atrocities that the Brits committed in Ireland to me, because I know, and it's sick, and you'll notice that not once in this post have I agreed with an English presence in Ireland, and also, I'm part Irish myself

I dont think anyone here said they supported the actions by the I.R.A. or the British that harm\kill civilians, we support the cause, I know I dont feel good when English are killed in an I.R.A. operation (I'm half English myself). And truly the U.S.have'nt done nearly as much as England in the country screwing up department, we have only been in control of maybe 2 countries and one the Phillipinnes was a war prize after we defeated the Spanish and they are already their own country again, the other I belive is Panama, which has also been givin back to the Panamanians. England on the other hand does'nt seem to want to part with its "stolen" countries i.e. Scotland, Wales, N. Ireland.

I never said Americans have done more, I certainly don't think that at all.
And also, we haven't really screwed countries, a lot of countries today that were part of our empire, and are now independent or not turned into great countries, Australia and Canada for instance.
It's quite ironic that we shipped off a load of convicts to Australia thinking it was a shithole, and now look at it, better than England.
Also, about not letting go of certain countries. I don't think Scotland's that bothered because we don't really do anything in Scotland, and I wouldn't say we wanted to hold onto Wales

Also, when I said America have screwed up a lot of countries, I didn't mean taking them over as such, but just invading when it has absolutely no relevance at all. e.g Vietnam, and in my opinion Iraq, when it happens

That's a cool memorial Gerard. That's what this thread was originally about, right?

Seriously, this could go on forever. Stop. Swallow your pride and move on.

Yeah, you have a point. As far as the IRA thing goes, I have my view on it, but I dont have enough info/background to make an informed comment, and it doesnt look like there are too many unbiased opinions here. Maybe we should just let this one die quietly...

Yup, unfortunately certain people seem to be trying to put words into my mouth when the whole point of the thread was to show pics of it.

I was saying that the pacifist approach of 'negotiating peace' with aggressors doesnt work. It didnt stop hitler, it wouldnt have stopped the n vietmanese, and it definately wouldnt have slowed down huessein. BTW we didnt invade either of those countries, we were working to stop the invaders.

Obviously, WWII was not soley britians fault. It was the harsh penalties imposed on Germany by ALL the victors of WWI that made the situation ripe for a personality like hitler to emerge.

Personally, I have no beef with the British, they are one of the few contries that will always stand with the US, not just when it is convenient.
