I have it and it works great for me! My pings range from 18-60 and hardly any downtime problems.
Had Dsl (Verizon) ...too slow and would make my Sony Phone go nuts even with the filters, and not to mention the lag spikes I would get. Its also more expensive. If you wanna upgrade to the same speed as Cable...add something like 15 bucks and thats if you qualify for an upgrade.

MSN DSL...Horrible. Goes down at least 5 times a week, DL of 25 kb/sec, $40 My parents are wasting a whole lotta money on it...And we have a contract that lasts until March..Wonder what I should ask for getting...I was gonna say AT&T but it sounds bad from what you people have said.

When i joined the internet in the 90's, i had 56k. It was painfully slow but i was able to play online games with a ping of 150 - 200. I tried to get DSL but was too far away from the CO, so i had to wait for cable to come to my area. Here are some speed results that i got from DSLreports.com
2003-01-14 20:58:42 EST: 1242 / 910
Your download speed : 1242857 bps, or 1242 kbps.
A 151.7 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 910470 bps, or 910 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!
These results are good but can be much faster with a properly matched modem & router and with some tweaking.
....broadband, there is no substitute !!
The world is my urinal

I have Videotron cable internet.
DSL has a theoretical (and practical) limit of 150 kilobytes per second:
cable can go up to four times that limit. Digital Subscriber Line providers
want you to think that getting cable will not be advantageous to you
because others will "share" your connection, which is true, but will not affect
yours at all. I can't speak for everyone else, but my cable connection has
NEVER let me down... more than once (a 3 hour downtime) in 2 years so far.

Although this thread maybe old if you want to host above 6 people and got a few extra dollars get comcast cable PRO if you can get it in your area. It costs 95$ a month and its got a 3.5 mbs download and a 384kbs upload. I have hosted 12-14 people with this and it has run pretty well.

I use rogers high speed cable, and I get pings of 20-50 usually.
