Default Some premiere help - 02-04-2003, 06:25 AM

Since ive been getting asked for help thought id make some hints to basic editing in it.

1. Editing your clips

When you load a clip into premiere obviously you will need to edit it down in size, the above pic shows the 2 mark points (red line under em), the one on the left is the mark in point and the right is the mark out point. Basically you just click the mark in point where you want the footage to start from and the mark out point where you want it to end.

Instead of having to watch the video through when you're using the mark in technique just use the ast forward and rewind tabs. Theyre a lot easier to use then just dragging the clip and hoping you get the bit cut out that you didn't want. Basically you use this in conjunction with the mark in\out points. Just use the forward tab untill you come to the point in the video u want to start your footage from, click the mark in tab then use forward tab again till you come to the end of the fotage and click the mark out tab.

When you have a section of video marked in and out you wil see the following.

Now all you have to do is click on the window and drag the video onto the time line.

A lot of times the video will have unwanted audio in it. To get rid of this right click the video in the timeline and celect unlink audio and video. Then go to the audio in the audio line and simply delete it.

2. Transitions

These can make a video look good but overuse of them is akin to a photoshop n00b using a lensflare effect all the time. I rarely use transitions at all but obviously some will want to.

Make sure your video clips are in the video 1 a master time line. Click on transitions choose an effect and drag it into the transition timeline between the two clips. Simple enough. You can edit the transitions duration etc by right clicking on them and messing with the options if you want to make them last longer or shorter etc.

Finally to speed up a video clip just right click on the video in the time line and change its rate. You can use this in conjunction with the mark in and out tabs to create an effect similar to the one i did in the video of me playing against kyle. If you have say 2 kills or whatever but theyre seperated by maybe 10 seconds of nothing happenning you basically just mark in and out the first kill, then mark in and out the footage with nothing happening but increaase its rate. Then mark in and out the last kill. Ir will create a similar effect to what i had used in the video.

File formats:

To compile your video click file, export timeline, advanced windows media (for premiere 6.0, i thik its different for 6.5).

The above screen should appear, normally i encode in the selected 768kbps wmv format, obviously the higher the format the bigger the file size so you basically have to balance between image quality\file size.

Yah man, I'll make a small page for hints on how to edit recordings with Premiere. Anything else you want to include?
