Before you rush out and buya video card.

1. How big is your CPU?

2. How much memory do you have?

3. Will your motherboard (mobo) accept the v/card youve decided on?

you can also get a 32mb Xtasy geforce2 for $49. It may be a generic brand name, but a geforce is a geforce.

I dont tend to buy the most expensive graphics cards now because I learned a hard lesson when 3dfx went belly-up. Nothing like buying the latest greatest card to find out weeks later no one supports it anymore.

How big is your CPU? Your processor? Not your computer case.

You might need a bigger processor (CPU)

When your posting a question re upgrading--always tell what in your computer. It helps others advise you.

1. CPU

2. Video card

3. RAM

4. Operating system W98, W2K or Whatever.

Note: If your cpu is too small it may bottleneck a good video card.

I think there's a small language barrier here. I think Arclight, when he says how big is your CPU, he means how fast is it? i.e. megahertz. Is it a Pentium 2, 3, 4? 500mhz, more?, less?...

As far as a new video card, how much money can you spend?

$50? Get the Geforce 2 MX400 64MB

$90? Get the Geforce 2 TI 64MB

$160? Get the Geforce 3 TI 64MB

Psy:

Just do not want him to go out and buy a video card and then not have it work. We'll probably get him up and running

You most definately do! You can get a GE Force TI 200 for about 150.00. Great investment and you'll need it.
