Too gung-ho, if you want that "shitstorm" feeling that was truely Vietnam I'd recommend Platoon, Hamburger Hill or Full Metal Jacket.

pretty good movie, though my dad (who was in Vietnam in the 1st Air Cav) said that the terrain looks nothing like Vietnam. Ive seen pics from him and it doesnt look anything like it. Also a odd thing i noticed in the movie was that the battle was going on at the same time as when they cut back to the telegrams. They sent them out pretty quickly didnt they?

I hated it. To me, it seemed like the entire movie relied on gore, it really had nothing else to offer. IMO, it's a complete peice of shit movie, I also recommend Platoon

Well, of course, war does NOT have gore. As a matter of fact, war is VERY pretty and I'm ashamed "We Were Soldiers" showed that, war is nothing like that hake:

It's a shitty movie. It's the typical "American rambos vs faceless masses of enemies" movie. I'd rather watch Windtalkers. Good shoot 'em up flicks, but not much else.

If you want to know what Vietnam looked like, then Full Metal Jacket or Platoon. But if you want to get into the head of some of the people there and feel what it was like, then go see Apocolypse Now.

I thought We Were Soldiers was ok but I would have liked to have seen more of the training involved with putting the 1st Air Cav into action. As the unit name implies, they were the 1st unit to be integrated with full helicopter support and they invented a lot of the tactics that were used later in the war.

I was being sarcastic in that post above, Innoxx. Just trying to make a point about how war was actually quite gory and disturbing.

However, if you didn't know this was based on a true story, and pretty soon I'll be reading the book myself. I do agree that some parts of the movie were quite unrealistic (like the part about Chris Klein doing that rambo shit, etc) But overall, it showed what really happened that day.
