I should think that an MG with a real life range of 800 yards missing the enemy at 100 yards is more of a joke (while a shotgun is good to 100 yards, or about twice it's range)[/quote:6d732]

Yah and id also think that mg's with the accuracey of sniper rifles is more of a joke. While were on the subject id say that taking ages over loading 5 rounds into a sniper rifle or a shotgun is also a joke.[/quote:6d732]

machineguns are accurate to 800 yards (if you mount it or fire semi-auto), the largest map distance (limited by radiant) is 250 yards.

the big error in realism is the recoil, any 7.62mm/7.9mm full cartridge weapon will kick like a bitch.
The Marines joked about the M-14: first shot in the stomach, second in the head, third above head, everything else is Anti-Aircraft.

So assuming that you fire a machine-gun single shot, you will get sniper accuracy, in fact Carlos Hatchcock got the sniping distance record when he used an M-2 .50 caliber machine-gun with a scope in Vietnam.

Unfortunately, since modders are essentially working with quake-3 only with WWII textures, it is impossible to mod the weapons even close to realistic.
so realism and stock would be more aptly named "multi hit arcade" and "single hit arcade"
