Default How many people play Spearhead on line? - 05-12-2003, 12:04 PM

When it first came out I saw some posts saying the maps were too big and you could not play it on line. Is this true?

When I go to the MOH servers they say "Spearhead sucks" and "no one plays it really." Is that true or is that just the opinion of the few people who don't play it.

IS there a Spearhead community on line?

I heard that Spearhead has a more realistic sniper scope (as in you can't run down the street with the scope stuck to your eye like you have Superheor Zoom Vision). That to me would be worth the price of admission right there - providing you can play it on line without a lot of lag and with a decent sized community of players.

So what is the scope on Spearhead on line play?

I'd say the Spearhead server makes up about 1/3 of the MOH Server population, and the other 2/3's are Allied Assault. It's not just because it sucks, it's many reasons; the lack of updates, the stoo-pid (IMO) system that dosen't draw all models in the game if they aren't exposed (Ex: If an enemy is leaning around a corner, you won't see him 9 out of 10.), The weapons are different, the options for mods (Chat filter, MOTD) are no longer working, and the game is generally slower than MOH.

Don't get me wrong, I'm one of the people still playing the game daily, and love it. The reason why is because of the people I play with. When you're on a server closely admined, are playing with other friends, and are keeping up with the community (custom maps & mods) you tend to enjoy the game more. Why not download the demo and test it yourself?

i enjoy spearhead very much. i run a small server and my players like it too. i rotate the old with the new. back and forth. put in some map mods for both. i think its a hell of a good game. i will say a few maps are a little too big for like 10 or 15 guys. they work much better on larger servers. the down side is like joe said i dont like that the swear filter dont work. and i dont like the bash with all the weapons. but you cant please everyone all the time. all and all id say it way a good game. i play every night and havent gotten tired of it yet. when i do i just change the game..lol. pistols only night..sniper rifle night. things like that. keeps the game kinda fresh with different things gopin on all the time. ill even change a map mod. through in some stuff and take things out not telling anyone. so the players on my server never know exactly what to expect when they get there.

Funny. The one thing that I do like aobut spearhead is teh bash with any weapon option. The idea of not rendering models if they arent in view is a good one, but like so very much of SH, the implementation is ametuer at best.

Like was said above, try the demo, see if you have enough hardware to run the beast, decide if it is worth it to you to buy SH. I did a new windows install several months ago and have not reinstalled SH yet.

I love Spearhead, man.

Playing SH on the aan.net server using Teamspeak is a 100% h00t!

Yes Speahead owns. There are certainly enough people on spearhead to play good games with, no matter what filter options you use too

I don't think the maps are too big, it seems to me as though they are too constrained compared to the originals. Also the open maps, like Stadt are devoid of cover or concealment. It seems EA was trying to make the game more running about and less about tactics and aiming.

Default Spearhead - 05-13-2003, 03:44 PM

I have to say that Spear Head is great. First off for me the mutli player runs more smoothly then AA for some reason. Second you can still get the best of both worlds because alot of the AA maps are put in the rotation. One thing I don't like about AA is you can't hit somebody with your rifle butt. I'm sure that EA meant to put that option in the original game but for some reason didn't. Anyway, I like SH because the maps are a little bigger and funner to play on. I feel that AA maps are much to small to my liking.

Hell yeah, if I put Spearhead on 640*460 with everything set to lowest detail, it runs more smooth than AA on 1024*768 with everything medium/high.

So...check your settings. AA should run significantly smoother than Spearhead with the same settings.

Search for this server. PhoenixForce. We have the tank and plane mods with a good ckr mod also. It's usually packed, holds 22 players with very little or no lag. We also run dv, algiers, and remegan.

That is entirely false. I can run Spearhead at 1280x1024 + maxed settings and still get 50 - 150 FPS on all maps. Try getting a real video card before you say that.

Define a card thats not a "real video card" they all process they same signal so i assume you mean an imaginary card... oOo:

And yes were quite aware you're running a geforce ti 4600 or some such pos like that. you never fail to attempt to show off your pretty little graphics whenever you post a screen of a mod or in your little sig pics. Fact of the matter is not everyone can afford\needs a top of the line card, your post just fucking smacks of arrogance sorry to telll ya.

Default SH vs. AA - 05-17-2003, 02:34 PM

I would agree with Bazooka Joe and Zoner about it's all about who you play with, the server itself and how well it is admined.

SH is very clunky -- the stock maps run poorly compared to the original AA maps. Although I play on aan.net's SH server, there are few SH stock maps on there. What happened to Holland?

does AAN still only let 6 guests play?

every time I tried to get in for some time there were like 8 out of 20 people on and it wouldn't let me in because 6 of 8 were guests cry:
