The M1 Carbine fired what was basically a pistol round modified for a rifle. It was underpowered ( a leather jerkin at 50 yards was apparently enough to stop the bullet) and was considered to be almost useless in the field. Many men threw away the carbine and picked up a different one in combat. The pouch seen on the butt of the M1 carbine in SPR contained 2 15 round magazines for the weapon. And yes the Lee Enfield .303 was the finest rifle ever produced.

uhhh the m1 was basically the same caliber as the enfield. m1 = .30 enfield = .303...oooh big diference
main difference is muzzle velocity in which the m1 garand according to this site is actually higher thus giving it a better penetration rate

very similar weapon and a leather jerkin would get shredded at 50 yars by either weapon.
