Boycott EA Games! -

05-31-03: Boycott EA Games!
We are officially fed up with EA Games' unwillingness to create an effective means of anti-cheat support for MOH:AA, which they are still selling in stores today! Who in their right mind would pay good money for a SP/MP game that's completely hacked?!
Part of this boycott includes EA's partnership with GameSpy. Read on:
*** A mass boycott of Electronic Arts by simply turning OFF GameSpy Reporting ***
As a server admin for MOH:AA you can probably attest to the unbearable amount of cheaters and hackers at work in our community over the last eighteen months. You may or may not know that EA has dropped support for this game some months ago. Apparently, EA is still unwilling to listen to our pleas for a solution and is just now acknowledging any sort of problem. My (very simple) idea is to hurt GameSpy in the pocketbook and draw them in as an advocate for those who EA will not listen to -- the paying gamer. By shutting off as much GameSpy reporting as possible for a period of one week this should effectively put enough of a dent in GameSpy's kickbacks to get them talking to Electronic Arts for us. Without all our public servers where will all those public players go to play? Nowhere!
If you are following the cheat and anti-cheat trends you know just how rife this game is with hacks. Probably the most destructive is the release of I-Bot, an auto-aimer that DOES work. It's sickening that people are paying money for a game that promises a great multiplayer experience but does not warn you beforehand that the game's integrity is and has been compromised.
Please join me and make yourself heard by turning off your GameSpy reporting from June 1st, 2003 to June 7th, 2003. If this doesn't get their attention we'll do it again, but for two weeks...and so on and so on until someone promises to take action.
To turn off GameSpy reporting you'll need to edit your "server.cfg" file by changing the line seta sv_gamespy "1" to seta sv_gamespy "0". Contact your game server provider if you need further help.
Take Action!

if we boycotted all of their games, including spearhead (the moneymaker), they might do something

You dont have to boycott the entire game just STOP using Gamespy
for one week. Use like "The All Seeing Eye" or "In-Game Bowser"
Or Direct Connect by Console "Connect 192.100.3.84:12203"

I think there is only 1 way to piss off cheaters like hell . But i think its illegal and very hard to set up .
And this won't stop it .

A few years ago a Neo-Nazi was trying to figure out a way to spread his message to the masses. One day he comes up with a great plan. He will setup an 800 number with a pre-recorded message for the callers to listen too. Now as you know, an 800 number is free to the caller but not to the person who owns it. In fact they pay for every phone call. So somebody (priest or rabbi I think), has an even better idea. If they tell everyone they know to call the number 5 times a day the neo-nazi will be financially unable to keep the number up (and it worked). See where I'm going with this?...
It costs money to make a website and host it, yet it's free to the visitors. I know that the standard MO is not to post about such sites on the boards, but I think plenty of people know about a particular one already. Well what if suddenly this site was getting an extra 5000 hits a day.And what if you clear you browser cache before you visit (5 times a day) so that the web server has to send you all the files again. And what if you posted your thoughts on there BBS 5 times a day.
Now they could start banning peoples ip's but many people can change their ip's. They could ban whole subnets (ie isps) but that would also lead to them removing potential customers.
This would by no means stop cheating but it would still be fun

In fact its not that hard .
Make a website . On it , just give the ablility for visitor too add their email on a mailing list .
Than, ADS this site ON all gaming board of the planets.
WHen you have 1000000000000 of emails.
Take a target , email it to all the emails , ask them to refreh the page 10 times each day .
Bang , server crasg , bang they will pay a lot for bandwith , band cheating site target will be slow like hell .
cool:

I'm certain we could all band together to bring the most infamous cheat site down as you suggest but I would not partake in it myself.
As good an idea as it may seen it is just sinking to their level. What would ensue is a massive backlash whereby they will do the same to this website and any other fan sites.
All of a sudden you have an horrendous situation that would probably harm the community more than improve it.
The way I see it is this: I will continue to play MOH until I get totally sick of it.
By the time HL2 comes out I will either have removed MoH from my system or that will prompt me to do it.
HL2 will be fully supported by Valve and at least they will work to stop cheats. I can't wait.
Best way to boycott EA is to no longer buy their products.
I mean seriously.. can you honestly see them making Pacific Assault a great game?
Call of Duty looks to be better, HL2 will definitely be better and D3 will be better.
Who needs EA?
