I've played through the game myself, and I TOTALLY agree with you on the level design, which for me was a big let down. Some levels are wonderful, others are standard and come across as being created lazily. The scripting in the game is good - so good in fact, it dimishes the replay value. Playing the game through more than a couple of times and you'll know where everyone is and how they'll react. In fact, the game almost feels like it's on rails, which is my biggest complaint.

And while I do agree with you on the Omaha Beach level when you said it was more of a gimmick, I didn't find it frustrating, but instead, I found it incredible exciting. The one thing that set this level apart for all others, and indeed all other games, was the audio. It's absolutely fantastic. Turn up your speakers and make sure audio is set to highest quality.

While MOHAA doesn't offer anything new, it does present state-of-the-art audio for a PC game. I personally believe the audio is the game's best feature.

Oh, and the dirt flying during explosions is wicked too!
