Healthy Temperatures for an Athlon xp2500

I have an overclocked xp2500, and i am curious as to know what temperature i should start worrying about it. It usually hovers around 50 degrees, but has hit around 58. What is the optimal temperature, and yeah, what temperature should i not allow it to hit?

That's pretty hot I think, my 2100 is set to shut down at 60 ot 65

My XP2000 (standard) gets up to 61-62 on the hottest days, but I think I've got a crap fan....

Dude, you need some serious cooling - water cool it, if you can afford it.
Otherwise, invest in some kick ass fans and make more holes in your PC case.

ok, ok. Well, secondary to that, how many ghz should i be running it at? I've got it cranked to 2.1 ghz at the moment, but apparently Athlon Ghz are better than Pentuim ones, or some shit, so how many ghz are appropriate for a 2500?

The xp2500 runs at 1.83 ghz out of the box. If you have it up to 2.1, that is a fairly significant gain. The xp3000 is 2.167 ghz. The max temp stated by amd for my xp2200 is 70. That is pretty high IMO and I would not reccomend going over 60. To have the amount of overclocking you do and to still only run at 58 C under load, you either have some excellent cooling, or you got a choice cpu, or you have your fans running so fast, your pc must sound like a hairdryer, or some combination of the 3.

A fairly small case, stock fans...nothing too special. Even when it gets around 58, my system doesn't even stutter. hmm...

I have mine set at 62. Its just a ball park number. Most of the people I know that know about computers think that 70 is too high, no matter what AMD says. 65 gives you a little buffer and I knocked it down a few more to make myself feel better. 65 is probably fine, but I wouldnt go any higher.

Ever since I had a windows install get corrupted beyond repair, I dont bother overclocking the cpu anymore. I spend much more time and energy making my case as quiet as possible now. I still need to watch temps with that though. Insulating for sound also insulates for heat, which requires more airflow, which means more fan speed and more noise, etc. My cpu will reach a max temp of 58 under extreme load. That is as high as I want to go.

I say you got a good processor because I have a non-overclocked unit, with quality case fans, and a high performance cpu heatsink and fan and still run hotter than you when you are overclocking.
