That's not what you said.

[quote="Sargent_Scrotum":4ef4b]ok, im considering getting xp with my new upgrade. i have one question, if i upgrade to xp will all my games i have now still work?[/quote:4ef4b]

That's what you said. You asked if your games would work on XP, not if you could keep them. Besides, I don't think you can upgrade from Win98 to XP, only Win2K or ME, but I may be wrong.

You don't want to upgrade anyway, you want to format and install.

I understood what you meant, but my advice stands - you want a crispy, fresh windows install. The couple of days it takes to get everything back to normal and installed is well worth it. If you upgrade an old win98 install *shudders* to XP, the quality of your xp will only be as good as *shudders* your old 98.

Exactly. I don't believe you can convert a FAT32 partition to NTFS one the OS is already installed, not to mention the location of all of you registry keys and system files (System to System32) will be different, so your programs will not regonize that change.

Just because the disk says it's able to upgrade does not mean it will do it properly.

I totally agree with Pest and Joe here.

I was just about to comment on changing from FAT32 (File Allocation Table 32 Bit) to NTFS (New Tech. File System) , because when you do this your computer will run a bit more smooth and you won't have to defragment so often (i haven't done that in like 3 months and everything still works very smooth).

Also to comment on the older DOS games, they do work with XP but you sometimes need to tweek/untweek to get things running (I got Monkey Island to work nicely biggrin: )

i havent ever defraged since i formated in december. no problems here. I guess il do a fresh install, il just have to rent/ re download all my games again.

BTW my little rant was directed towards Jotun who posted this even after i stated twice i was getting an upgrade:
[quote:2e214]if your computer has 98, i would think it might be a bit too old for XP, even my 1.6 ghz has problems with xp, i just got a corrupted file which made me reinstall xp and reformat my drive, wiped the whole drive out.[/quote:2e214]

sorry if i accedently offended anyone. my apologies. freak:

Well there are lots of other good things about NTFS, the one i like most is that when/if your computer crashes, everything up to the point of the crash has been saved (this would not have happend on the FAT32 system). Also there are numerous of security perks the NTFS provides happy:
