Please refer to your own documentation - the BAR was a .30 caliber, in the 06 variety. 7.62 = .30 .308 is neither a .30 or 7.62. You can get M1s in .308, but not WWII vintage ones.

Which gun you would like to call the trench broom/sweeper really depends on what war you are referring to, as stated above.
