If its messed up its likely youd waste money (like I did) having it installed. The only thing that really needs to work WELL is the laser so that it can read dvd medium or cd-r's. Beyond that everything is fine. I'd just recommend getting a refurbished ps2 from EB or somewhere - trade in your games, and then just get them back the "smart" way.
