ok, now i'm absolutely sure this looking straight up/down is not an optical mouse issue. it must a part of The Bug, because:
today i played in a server where the bug was for quite a short time (strange...). at one moment all players looked up/down (some up, some down). i observed most of my teammates because i had just been killed and was in spect mode. after this i asked ppl if they all got optical mice. no, of course. some had, some not, but all seemed to have trouble with looking straight up or down.
