Theres a computer utility called RPGMaker2k(2k3) that allows one to create playable roleplaying games in the style of higher end RPG's like FF6 and Secret of Mana. You can customize everything down to the look of your heroes and NPC's face plates that appear in the windows. You're in control of everything and must decide which type of rpg you're going for - Something fantastic like Final Fantasy, or something a little more down to earth, like Earthbound or Shadowrunner. It's all up to you.
The program itself is fairly easy to get, it's simply getting the right files that is the thing. At the very least you'll need a copy of RPGM2k or RPGM2k3 and a RTP pack for the software which I both have and can upload to my website for dowload if you positively cant find it. Really RPG2k is all you need since the creative stuff you download - such as character animations, backdrops, music, etc. Even designing the maps you do tile by tile. Some have gone so far as to remake their favorite games - their way.
So, whats all this for - well just wanted to see if anyone would be into doing this in their spare time, couple hours a week. Truly this is not a 1 week thing. Well I guess it could be, but if you wanted something played by thousands (and there are those homebrew rpgs out there that are) this is something that might take you months to finish. No programming knowledge is needed, just the ability to get through the things interface.
Besides where else can all you fooks make yourselves actual heroes and take on the MAN, or have your character JIMMY DA CRACKHEAD face off against the evil SOBERALIANS!
