Im seroisly tired of this 56k bullshit!!!!! Every server I go to , i play for like 3 mins then lag my ass off. And when i do get to play theres still no point because it takes for ever to freakin shoot!!! Ive been trying to get dsl/cable forever. When I 1st got my comp I lived in a house just 2 blocks away from the one im in now. Two weeks after i moved out from that one dsl became available to that area and not to my new house. Its been 5 years now and still isnt any dsl/cable here!!! Im going nuts. You cant do shit with 56k!!

yah 56K is pretty bad now, i didnt even realize. the only think you can play on 56K decently is a MMORPG. I remember the good ole days in CS where only mabye 1 or 2 people in a room had 100 or less ping. and those were the days where skill meant something

it's not that you can't do anything with 56k.It's that the games today have to much coded info for 56k
Plus have the fact that the phone co. are pushing out the small DSL co. So all you have is the phone co. option to give you DSL and most arent in any hurry to get the DSL lines in!
I feel your pain on this issue

Same thing here. Been trying for years to get cable or dsl. Call up the phone comany everyday and keep bugging them and still no dsl! ARGH! i keep getting in games where they ping like 200 or so then i get in and it shoots up to 999 for no reason, this pisses me off.

Not sure what the cost of Satellite is or what the installation is, but I'm sure it's a whole hell of alot faster than 56k

You might want to look into ISDN also.
Satelite won't give you S*** for an upload speed and an ISDN at least you get 128K in both directions

But satellite would be better for gaming than 56k would it not? Sounds like he would like it for lower pings and less connection problems.

Satellite cost a little less than DSL if both are available in your area. It's really there for those who are sick of 56K and aren't able to get broadband being so far from a point. Satellite WOULD be a pronounced improvement over 56k, and as far as upload is concerned - eh. I dont do much uploading for people cause I'm a little bastard. However, I know for satelitte that you upload normally over a phone line. I could be mistaken. Certainly if you are on 56k though and are willing to pay the cost - SaT is the way to go.

I know if I lost my DSL, I wouldnt even bother to get back online - LOL.

Satellite is coming along but with some airborne cable and such you can get interference with the weather!
If it's clear your hunky dorrie but if it's cloudy and or real windy the signal can get messed up!

i play multi on 56k and get pings averaging about 230 in game, but when there is close combat my pings jumps to around 370 so i just shoot where i think the guy is going to move to. However this is tuff with the mauser or sniper rifle, better to use a weapon that has some spray to it.

ok, ISDN sounds interesting. Is that like a dial or is it broadband also like cable or dsl. How much does that go for?
