Yeah NEVER hold down the trigger...if you hit anything it'll be an accident.
Since you have no confidence in where your bullets are going make sure you can see your bullet holes on walls and shoot at the wall with the BAR or STG when standing still...it is accurate as a rifle...try moving and it spreads out. Remember that when playing.

I usually shoot in short bursts...long distance i shoot single shots like it's a rifle...close up short burst of no more than 10 shots. Usually more like 5 or so.

When shooting at someone shoot at the side they are going. for instance...If they are moving to the left shoot at the left side of their body(IE the very left edge of the left arm)....If they are moving to the right the right side of their body.(right edge of right arm) If they are right in front of you aim for the chest area.

This only works well with the rifles BAR and STG. It can work with the SMG but it really sprays...and you can have that crosshair right on them and still easily miss if you are a medium distance away. After shooting the wall with the BAR shoot with the SMG's like the thompson or mp40. You'll see how inaccurate it is even relatively close and standing still.

Just keep practicing!! Don't fall into the noob trap of adopting your only weapon as the shotgun!
Lastly, someone else said...you simply have to play a lot. No matter how good you are there is always someone who can woop your ass lol.
