To answer a few questions:
How it was done. I took a series of
screen shots, each one overlapping a
certain percentage to make warping
and blending possible. I used a cheat
code to avoid getting shot to pieces
(those Germans are cranky). Even
then it was very difficult due to
the constant shaking caused by mortar
rounds landing near by. All the
graphics were maxed and the resolution
was 1600x1200x32.
The resulting screen shots were
imported into a stitching program
and each one was adjusted for focal
length, then warped and blended.
The resulting tiff was then imported
into Photoshop to be touched up by hand
and then converted into a smaller jpeg.
You can’t just tack shots together; it
won’t work.
As for anyone else using this shot in
their signature; lets all try not to
piss off my lawyer, ok? The guy just
sucks up my money.
For any Ghost Recon fans I did a
whole series of these panoramas for
The Platoon web site (on the map page).
I also do real life panoramas (which
are far more impressive); if anyone
is interested I can post a link to
my personal photography site.
And as far as the German perspective,
it is a great idea. Look for more of
these in the future as I find
suitable locations.
