The second one was a recorded Dream Theater solo.
And guitarists with experience know their scales and can play right through 'em...sending in neat little licks and turnarounds. That's the foundation of a solo, playing a scale with style.
But you're right. That kid has some serious shredding ability, obviously cares about his music and his ability to improve. That's what makes a kick ass musician. Rock on, man rock: .

that's amazing. I've been playing for a year and a half, just trying to teach myself. I played acoustic rythom stuff for the first 8 months or so, but I got tired of it, so I started learning scales. Virtually Everything that I know I thought myself by way of "Guitar For Dummies". Actually, a really good book. Lots of good info, especially about maintinence (changing strings, inotation, ect...)
If I were to play something that good, I think I'd shit my pants.

The thing i hate the most is a stupid guitar player that can't read music (now you'll give me all the pros that can't read and you'll get all defensive about it). If you can't read music, you should go kill yourself or go and learn--choose.
I really hate the kids that don't even know how to play a C# on their guitar...they just go, "uh...I don't know what that is. All I know is 3rd string 5th fret" rolleyes:

The hardest part is site playing with the guitar. There are so many possibilities with the guitar that makes site reading extremely hard. I guess schools can be to blame for making music education more exclusive towards band kids than the average joe guitar player. We didn't get a music education class at my school until my last year of HS. I took it and it was the weirdest mix of people (band kids, punkers, goths) yet we all learned a lot from this class.
PS: I can play C# AND Db !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111

ahah, gg enharmonics
I guess I'm thinking from with bias here. My public highschool is ranked in the top 50 schools in the country for music. We have classes that guitar players are allowed in. Our courses consist of: Music theory I, Music Theory II, AP Music Theory, Jazz Improv I, Jazz Improv II, Jazz Improv III, Piano Labs I, II, and III, concert band, string orchestra, chorus, jazz choral, and alot of other programs after school like jazz band. In all of those courses, there is atleast 1 guitar player. They really like the jazz improv courses and the music theory due to the fact they can write music after 1 year.
