Disconnect from the net (turn off your modem or whatever) and then launch Steam. You should see an "Updating Steam....." box, it'll stay on the screen for a minute or so, then you should see this.....

There might be an easier/quicker way of doing it, but that's the only way I know of.[/quote:d1ceb]
that happens to me even when im connected to the internet. happens with xfire and msn too.
