Your talking about 2 diff. things.
downloading a file you want speed not ping
playing a game, ping is more important. but download speed helps

Any basic broadband connection will give you enough download speed, so what you should really want is a very low ping

ping = latency how fast the packet gets to the server. how quickly can I request that file

download speed is how fast I can more that file once I have made my connection.

You are better whit the low speed and best ping . You don't need 3mbit to play you know?

15k of of and 15 of donw /sec is enought for playing . Some isp is more fast but got high ping.

I was on dsl and now i am on cable.
I don't got 20 of ping and things like that anymore, exectp for canada server. But i got a lot of server under 100 . Whit dsl i had maybe 50 server under 100 and now i got almost 250 server under 100 .

I prefer cable.

My download speed is 250-330 kbps and my upload is 128kbps on Cable. Should I complain to Charter because I know this sucks for cable or DSL.

Man, Comcast really sucks, my effective upload speed is like 15kbps, which is a misadvertiment of their so called 128kbps (Yea right, lol). I called Comcast up and explained my slow speed, what do they say ? Maybe you should upgrade your service to the Professional service, another 60$ more  They dont care about me

what exactly are you laughing at ?

I am assuming since the game uses the Q3TA engine it is also using similar netcode. ie with a 300 ping i press shoot.... 150ms later the server knows this.... 150ms after that my bullets are in the air and my target has probably moved on. high ping looks like you are lagging because you are lagging. what exactly do you think lag is FFS ???

Or am i completely wrong and this game uses client-side weapon firing prediction and server-side hit computation to compensate for lag similar to CS ?

Considering its pretty much free of real cheats i had assumed that none of the CS cheats that function on the client telling the server where its shots are landing (ie aimb0t) it wasnt using this method to calc shots.

Anyways Im sure youll fill me in on the joke.

Hey r3mix, The only hole I see in your post is,
If you can't aim in the first place, then your ping is not going to do anything for you  ( all the people who cry cheat )

I can see it now, 'You cheater you have a low ping, that must me the new aimbut"

Ping will defiantly give you the upper hand. You will see your target faster and thus you can react quicker.

By the time the high pinger see's you. You have already killed them. Thus they start to complain and whine that your cheating.

You actually do have a 128kbs (kilo bits per second) connection. What you usually see when you're uploading or downloading something is KB/s (kilo bytes per second). A byte is composed of eight bits, so a 128kbs connection is actually a 16KB/s (hundred twenty eight divided by eight) connection. Which is close to what you reported.
