Grivous supposedly came from some far planet where he thought all of his race was killed by a jedi, but was in fact killed by Dooku. He was badly injured in a bomb attack and he was made into the Grivous you see today.

The Sith Lord, Darth Sidious, was in fact Emperor Palpatine who wielded this whole plan in order to get him more power.

Anakin killed all of those kids because he couldn't let any jedi survive. If one survived there was always the chance that the one could come back at topple down the empire. He also killed them because it was his descent into the dark side and his hatred of the Jedi Order.
