What's Up, Tiger Lily?

In comic Woody Allen's film debut, he took the Japanese action film "International Secret Police: Key of Keys" and re-dubbed it, changing the plot to make it revolve around a secret egg salad recipe.

Stripes

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083131/

"Thanks to a run of bad luck and go-nowhere jobs, John convinces Russell to join the army so they can get in shape, likening it to a health spa. Once in boot camp, wiseguy John tangles with his by-the-book Sgt. and becomes the unofficial leader for his platoon, made up mostly of other misfits and assorted losers. After somehow making it through graduation, they are given a special assignment but, thanks to John's romantic interest in a pretty MPO, the other men wind up behind the Iron Curtain until John, Russell, their dates and Sgt. Hulka make a daring rescue attempt in explosive style."

I just bought this DVD without having seen it, because I heard from a trusted source that I'd really enjoy it. Plus, I really like Jeremy Piven and Jon Favreau, two out of five of the main actors....

....Turns out it's one of the most savage black comedies I've ever seen. Pretty cool flick.

I recommend it:

Very Bad Things

[url:36e32]http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0124198/combined[/url:36e32]

One of those, from bad to worse type deals....Kinda like, A Simple Plan, but with typical black comedy style.

The Beast of War (1988)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094716/
During the war in Afghanistan a Soviet tank crew commanded by a tyrannical officer find themselves lost and in a struggle against a band of Mujahadeen guerrillas in the mountains. A unique look at the Soviet 'Vietnam' experience sympathetically told for both sides.[/quote:a07f9]
Afghanistan, 1981, and the Soviet Union is locked in a futile and bloody battle with the Mujahedeen. Separated from their patrol after a vicious attack on an Afghani village, a T-62 tank engages in a deadly game of cat and mouse with the local mujahed, led by the Afghan Taj. The tyrannical and increasingly unstable tank commander Daskal pushes the moral boundaries of the tank driver Constantine Koverchenko to the limits, with almost dire consequences. Sensing a mutiny, Daskal abandons Koverchenko to die in the desert at the hand of the Afghans, only to find that he's sealed his own fate.[/quote:a07f9]

It's an excellent movie.
