Default FPS increase in BF2.. - 09-03-2005, 09:45 PM

Ok, been having some modem troubles lately but my new modem is arriving very soon BUT upon looking for tricks and tips I came across this very helpful thread:

main fixes are on page 1 but READ THROUGH it:
http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthre ... disconnect

Try this if you're experiencing Connection Losses!

[quote:e1cd2]Sure, just right lick on your desktop and select "New." In the drop down menu select "Text Document." A new, blank text document will be created on your desktop.
Open it.
Copy and paste the following into the text document:
start /belownormal bf2.exe
That's all you need. Click save. Now, right click on the document again and select "Rename." Name it anything you want, but be sure it has a .bat extention. If you have 'hide file extensions enabled' it'll still end up being a text document, so be sure to turn that off (See below). Mine is called BF2low.bat. Now, place the file in the Battlefield 2 main directory (the one where the bf2.exe file is) and you're good to go. I also created a shortcut for it (by right clicking on the .bat file and selecting "Create Shortcut") and relocated it to my desktop. Now all I have to do is click my BF2Low.bat shortcut instead of the Battlefield 2 icon and I'm good to go.

To disable the hide file-extensions for known file types feature (whose reason for existing escapes me) open Explorer, click "Tools" then "Folder Options." In the box that pops-up, click the "View" tab to see the list of features. De-select the box next to "Hide file extensions for known file types" which is just below the file-folder icon for "Hidden Files and Folders" (which I also have set to display).[/quote:e1cd2]

I'm tired whilst typin this but what I wanna pass on is to try this program if you're experiencing sluggish gameplay or low FPS in the game:

Smartclose
http://www.bm-productions.tk/

It shuts down everything except the crucial windows processes your PC needs. It takes a snapshot of your settings, open programs, etc and then you shut them all down with the flick of the mouse. You then just press a button and it reverts back to how it was AFTER you've played BF2 or any other game.

I ran it thinking I'd notice very little difference but I think I had about a 10 FPS increase which was nicely noticable in-game, alot smoother.

example from thread:
[quote:e1cd2]well i installed smartclose and now i dont have lag in the beginning. amazing. now my fps went 10 times higher. i get average 89-99 fps even during arty strikes.[/quote:e1cd2]

Hope it helps some people out here freak:

Everyone NEEDS more fps........fps...........is...............life.

I'm thinking Gerv got so into a game of BF2 that he put his hand into his monitor, killed a Sniper and thus found out he has found a porthole to another dimension in his screen..........he is now lost in the buildings of Karkand, knitting together fallen soldier's uniforms in the hope of some day, one of the soldier's ghosts, will thank him by kissing his soft irish cheek and granting him the right to move into his next realm................Songhua Stalemate...

I can max out BF2 at 1680x1050 at 80 fps... So I don't think I need to do something extra for 5 more frames...

Not to mension it won't do anything for me... Plus I had 2GB of RAM. That program won't do anything because it doesn't even come close to using over 2GB with all the bloaty processes.
