I think a guys first car should be bought by himself with money has erned himself. A guys first car is something special and i think it takes something away from that to have it handed to him. Taking out the trash and washing dads car should not earn you a car.

Work, sweat and a weekly paycheck should buy your first car.

Having said that having your dad cosign your loan is not a problem as long as your the one making the payment along with the insurance.

I bought my first car as did my son. I could have helped but my son decided he wanted to do it himself. He worked his ass off doing landscaping until he had enuogh to make a downpayment.
