Default Car Sound Systems - 10-29-2005, 10:51 AM

Ok, guys im calling all you sound "know it alls"

I've just bought myself a cheap car. But the speakers suck. So i need a new sound system (new speakers/sub/amp/head unit) thats about it.

Now I know nothing about this kind of setup. Can you explain to me one of the easier ways to get started. Am I best going into a specialist and buying a full setup or buying the parts individually off ebay and putting it together myself?

How much work is it to actually install the system?

Links to good items would be appreciated (just dont make them too expensive)

Ill reccomend a cheap and easy to access system (since you live in the UK) aka Adire, RE, Image Dynamics ect = hard to get over there.

http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/3352

Single Type R Sub.

http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/3352

Type R Components

+ another set for the rear for which ever size fits. (does not have to be a component either)

http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/1283

Decent amp.

and depending on how much you would like to spend on the HU

http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/2826

or

http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/2827

or

http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/2089

or

http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/2824

or

http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/2825

& find yourself a 4 gauge wire kit to hook up for power.

(i am a huge fan of alpine all around the board for an easy to setup system.)

& if you want find a decent 4x50 4x75 or 4x100 amp to power the speakers. (it enchances the experience completely.

-ALSO have a professional build you a proper box to spec. Prefabs blow chunks.

-NOW juju is probably going to have a much different recommendation, (MORE euro brands and or pioneer infinity stuff...) but THIS IS MY my solution to a problem. Alpine has never let me down.

(aka i can jog for no more then 10 minutes on pavement, then it becomes so sore i can barely walk, it easily twists.. ect ect. NOt dependable. The cold makes it a whole lot worse.

It's relativly simple to install. Go to http://www.crutchfield.com I really like their stuff.

I have a '79 camero and I opted for a cassett player and got some blauphunkt (sp?) speakers. Just follow the directions which come free with your stuff. Pay attention to the wiring on the old harness for the old radio should you have one. You may need a harness adapter as well...

If your car doesn't already have a radio, you'll want to get a voltage tester. something simple which will let you indicate the 12V Constant, Accessory, and Dimmer.

Enjoy dance:
