If I were you BUTTERS - I would lose MORE than fucking the minimum. . .not because fatties CANT complete basic - but because you will be harrassed by the fellow recruits in your plat as well as your Drill Instructors -

Not to mention you get to wear this nice blue name tag (dunno if they still do this) indicating you as a fatty in the mess hall and only to receive certain food stuffs.

Fatties are not welcomed in any service. lose 70 pounds if they suggested 40, then enter. Also dont join just because your life sucks and your going no where. I knew some of those guys and you wanted to fucking strangle them. Join because you want to kill people and blow shit up, not because the college is good or you want to "see the sights". You'll be dissapointed. Also, marines are hard core mother fuckers who are highly motivated and want nothing else than to be a good marine. Be a shit bag and they will fucking hate and destroy you.

The Army is far more laxed and "whatever" for your reasoning to join. Alot of college money kids, and i didnt have anything else to do types of people there. Most of those people dont have combat MOS's and are a drag to be around in basic. Army Infantry school is harder, and filled with fewer shit bags. Basic is 9 weeks, infantry basic is 9 weeks, 2 day pass, then 4 more weeks with the same drill sergants. If your a serious soldier in the Army, you'll want to be airborne trained and attempt for SF, rangers, or other selective elements, they weed out all college kids and so forth.

Whatever you do. Dont join in the fall/winter. Joining in the fall means it starts to get cold but you dont get issued cold weather gear thats good enough to deal with it. Boots mainly, frost bite 3 times really gets fucking old. Also if you join at a time that splits your training due to christmas break. Thats bad. I was on hold at my basic unit when the next cycle came in and they were a split cycle. My DS's were betting on who could get the most recruits to not come back from break. There method was being complete fucking dicks. I mean they were bad with our group but fuck these kids got it worse, fun to watch.

Choose wisely as it is a rather long commitment.

it's not even college or my life is going no where. This is something I've wanted to do for a while. I plan on joining law enforcment, and since Marines have a higher chance of getting in and better "connections" this is something I've wanted to do for a while.

I've basically put myself on a strict diet and exercise. Just simple shit at the moment. I walk/jog a mile every night and do about 10 crunches and 10 pushups every morning and night.

Be careful of any military recruiters. When I spoke to them, they seemed nice and they told me all this cool stuff and all the benefits i would receive. I started to taking to other people that had been in the marines and they said it was bullshit. I have a lot of respect for anyone in the military, but those damn recruiters piss me off. If your really serious about this, you gotta step up that exercise routine. 10 crunches and push ups aint much. Try joining a gym and get a personnal trainer.

Fuck spending money on personal trainers. Just do the PT on Wednesdays plus incorporate your wanted diet/excercise program. Duh.

I'm more than likely going to join either the marines or army. However, I would rather wait until I am more fit, outgoing, and just for shits-n-giggles, training in firearms.

Good idea. You gotta start somewhere so don't worry about starting with just walking and a few situps. How much time do you have? Your going to have to up the mileage, speed and situps etc. alot before you get there. A trainer is a great idea, especially if you have never worked out before.

Couldn't be more right. Some of the "red neck" country boys who have been shooting rifles for 10 years with their dads think they are high and mighty and will shoot the best. WRONG because you already have developed bad habits and an M16 is nothing like a hunting rifle or any other civilian rifle AR-15 aside. It helps if have never fired a rifle ever such as myself.

Yeahs that's a good routine too, one I've started recently is this..

Get two chairs and do 100 push ups, as soon as you get tired stop and do crunches until you get tired from crunches then go back to push ups until you can hit 100 push ups straight.
