i guess you dont do too much work with the african-canadain community... or the jamaican-canadian, or caribean-canadian, etc... these sects exist within many communities...

i've worked on several black candain history projects including a national touring exhibit, and when i questioned several of the participants they all agreed that they dont give a fuck what people call them as long as it isnt "coloured"... they also explained that the use of the word nigger is a take back, therefore desensitizing the word by overusing it... but like TGB says, nigger was NOT part of their daily vocabulary...

americans think they have the right to turn everything and anything into something, or better they think they have the right to complain about everything.

i dont see why asking about the n-word would be a problem. it seems like a valid question about ones culture ... maybe assuming that all black folks use the word was a bit gay but wanting to know why its used in the first place doesnt seem like such a big deal to me.

it does seem like if you didnt want to be called something you yourself wouldnt call yourself or someone else that something.
